The papers of Sir Hugh Kawharu were transferred by the Hugh Kawharu Whānau Trust to Special Collections in May 2008. The material was initially listed at item and box level by Anahera Morehu. From this listing an artificial series structure was created to give the collection structure and to aid researchers in searching for particular material. Evidence presented at hearings to determine appropriate allocation of Maori fishing assets by Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission collated by anthropolgist Dr Steve Webster, who also presented evidence at the hearings. The hearings held in the New Zealand High Court were to determine two questions: whether allocation of assets prior to the 1992 Deed of Settlement over Maori fisheries (the "Sealords deal") must be exclusively to iwi, and secondly, is "iwi" taken to mean...

The papers of Waerete Norman were donated in two batches to the University of Auckland Library in 2002 and 2005. Notes by Rose Leaman which accompanied the 2002 batch stated that ‘most boxes contain mixtures of topics – unsorted – occasionally there will be like material together’.
